People often ask me why I started Liftsearch.
The truth is, this isn’t just a business. It’s not a tech startup chasing trends or traction. For me, it’s deeply personal. I built Liftsearch because I lived with the problem. I still carry it with me. And I know so many others do too.
Waiting for my uncle
When I was a kid, one of the most exciting things was knowing my uncle was coming home for the weekend. He worked far away, and every Friday morning he’d travel for hours just to spend a bit of time with us. But too many times, he’d get to the town by 6PM, only to find there was no last-mile transport to the village.
We’d be waiting for him, hoping he’d arrive — but he’d have to sleep in town and only make it home the next day. That was one less night we got to spend with him. One less memory. One more reminder that the system wasn’t built for people like us.
The funeral that changed everything
Fast forward to a few years ago — I was traveling from Gauteng to attend a close friend’s funeral in a remote village. I made it to the town without issues. But when I needed to get to the village, it was the same old story: no safe, reliable way to get there at night.
I missed the funeral. I missed my chance to say goodbye. And in that moment, it hit me harder than ever — we’re still struggling with the same basic issue we’ve faced for decades.
Facebook groups tried, but It wasn’t enough
Over time, I’ve seen how Facebook groups have tried to fill the gap. People post when they’re traveling and offer others a ride. It’s a patchwork solution that works — sometimes.
But let’s be honest — it’s also messy. You don’t know if the driver is reliable. You don’t know if the trip will actually happen. There’s no structure, no protection, no peace of mind. As much as I respect the hustle in those groups, I also saw the need for something better. Something built for us. Something that understands why these journeys matter.
That’s why I built Liftsearch
We built a platform that prioritizes remote travel, that lets you search by village name, not just towns.
We’ve implemented rigorous driver screening, secure payment systems, and real-time trip visibility, because safety and reliability can’t be optional. Whether you’re visiting family, attending an important event, or heading home after work — we make sure you’re not stuck.
We’re still about the problem
Even as we grow, even as we expand features and improve tech, the heart of Liftsearch hasn’t changed. It’s still about the problem. About children waiting for their uncles. About journeys that shouldn’t have to stop in town. About building a bridge — not just between places, but between people.
So if you’ve ever been stuck, if you’ve ever posted in a Facebook group and crossed your fingers, if you’ve ever missed a moment because you couldn’t get there — this platform was built for you.
We’re not just helping people move. We’re making sure you get home.
